Marble Drop is an object-based puzzle game that’s like a cross between The Incredible Machine and Pachinko. The game consists of placing different colored marbles into small cubes, which will move along the path, trigger events, and hopefully end up in the correspondingly colored hole. Complexes can include many types of contraptions, including springs, balls, and roller coasters that change drastically with each drop of the marble.
There are some other details in the game. Steel balls cost 10% of the value of colored marbles, so they can be used as test marbles or to help release a hold if you don’t want to use a precious colored marble. Black marbles are very expensive, but they turn the correct color when they arrive at their destination. You start with seven marbles of each color. The surviving marbles move to the next puzzle.

There are 50 puzzles in total (including 5 bonus puzzles that can only be accessed via the combination keys that appear on some puzzles). Each puzzle is decorated with Leonardo’s exquisite drawings. Wisely, explanatory notes from the original da Vinci manuscript form part of the background. These help you understand what the new pieces of gear do, which gives a nice learning curve to the game.
The sound effects used are the typical splashes and splashes, and they are quite cool. The range of devices used in puzzles is highly varied, from buttons, switches, and switches in early puzzles, to protractors, dividers, marbles, and other space-age devices in later puzzles. Although the new equipment seems overwhelming at first, I found that by replaying the level once or twice I could get a high score. After level 20 things start to get a little crazy, maybe a little too crazy. Be warned: this is not a game for the faint of heart.
The main problem I have with the game is that the scoring system is very painful. Do you want to get a large number? Just send the marbles around one of several puzzles involving the concept of time or “perpetual motion” and go have a cup of tea.
Or play the same puzzle over and over again! My other main concern is that I really want to SOLVE problems. Marble Drop allows you to literally enjoy points by purchasing additional marbles. I think this takes too much away from the game. Fortunately, if you get a useful score of 5000 at the end of the level, you can tell if you solved the puzzle with the best solution. For purists, this is the only way to get the most out of the game.
