Strategic Command: American Civil War Free Download game focuses on the tactical side of war, but it’s a very functional system that will be familiar to anyone who has played a previous Strategic Command title. This means that sometimes unit assembly can look like SC: World War 1, but that’s my only real negative so far.

Another small negative for some might be the alternate history options, which mostly seem necessary (?) to get a CSA, which is probably real but it doesn’t really leave room for a single purist to fail. The game has some balance issues that need to be worked out but Fury Software has a good history of getting community feedback and really fine-tuning multiplayer balance.

Overall I’m a huge fan of this game! I find it to be an immersive civil war experience, you give orders from the top, so I’ll excuse all the abstraction, you just give orders. For me, the game takes place in your typical cold war room, as you study maps and troop movements, plan major operations, and contemplate the future of the American states.

Also, I wish the game had some relative numbers of soldiers and casualties rather than hard data on unit types and numbers. Perhaps a demographic of civilization V, some kind of abstract number inferred from previous hard data.
